Wingspans is a web-based platform that takes an immersive approach to career discovery just short of experiencing the job yourself. It's an archive of 700+ authentic and heartfelt career stories—nothing sterilized or sugarcoated—that make work come alive and are tied into every aspect of the site, including career, school, and major pages. Think of it as a travel agent for life—students learn about work through career stories, build self-knowledge through proprietary assessments, and create a career action plan inspired by paths others have taken before them.
When we started, we set out to expand the conversation about careers to improve life outcomes. We talked to mushroom farmers, astrophysicists, and pipe fitters. We captured career stories of hope and gritty courage, of pathways out of poverty, and of people who have gotten somewhere good in a roundabout way. And we built a web-based platform around these stories that Rhode Island Monthly magazine called "Humans of New York for the Professional World."
Our business has two customer segments: schools and companies. Schools --primarily community colleges, colleges, and transitional high schools -- subscribe to our platform on a per student basis to prepare their students for lifelong success. Companies partner with us to help improve their talent pipeline and catalyze diversity. For a yearly fee we develop and license branded content for companies, including videos, and feature them on a company profile on our site. Now, more than ever, companies need to tap into a workforce aligned to their diversity and inclusion goals and Wingspans helps them reach their benchmarks. The company profiles also help students connect careers to industry.
Unlike other platforms, we aim to disrupt the way students learn about work by approaching career discovery from a human-centered lens.
