With mandatory stay-at-home orders, and the elderly especially at risk for the virus, Brianna Schindler and her father, Bill, began to make loaves of sourdough weekly for those in their community who were unable to access a grocery store. Taking a swift liking to the baking, 16-year-old Brianna created a business of her own - Rise. Initially with only three items on the menu, all operations were taking place in their house basement kitchen. The small sourdough business gained much traction in the community, allowing Rise to enter into a commercial kitchen equipped with a storefront a mere year later; Rise has continued to nourish the community, and grow in tandem. Now, Rise handles many employees on their payroll (including both of Brianna's parents, Bill & Christina Schindler who left their full-time jobs in education), and are in the midst of expanding their product line and their capabilities. Previously equipped with an abundance of food knowledge from their travels into food studies around the world, the Schindler's are looking to expand Rise into something much larger than solely sourdough products called the Modern Stone Age Kitchen. From nose-to-tail burgers to fresh sourdough pizza, Rise will have it all - nourishing the community and being a pioneering force in the modern ways of healthy eating today.
