IJAK supports the development of children's social and emotional… I'm Just a Kid (IJAK) is an early childhood school that operates year round to nurture and teach children, birth to 5 years old using best practices in all aspects of schooling. IJAK supports the development of children's social and emotional abilities through learning opportunities focusing on feeling recognition and management, understanding emotions, getting along with others, and cultivating communication skills. In addition to socio-emotional development, IJAK uses a research-based reading curriculum that focuses on predictors of reading success: Alphabetic Knowledge, Language Development and Phonological Awareness. Additionally, three languages are taught (English, Spanish and baby sign language) and an organized physical activity structure includes yoga, martial arts and soccer. Collectively, the IJAK teachers and staff members have over 100 years of experience in education. The teachers are highly trained and are required to have a minimum of a child development associates degree (with many having a bachelors and higher). IJAK staff supersede annual continuing education hour requirements in an effort to stay current with early childhood trends and developments. IJAK serves
all families and children mirroring the vibrant and diverse San Antonio demographics. IJAK finds creative ways to ensure early childhood education is provided to families and children no matter their financial situation through scholarships and child care assistance.
